Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington to declare for NBA draft...

Yep, that's right Tar Heel fans. Two-thirds of your worst nightmare has come true. I have very reliable sources that have told me that Wayne Ellington has already met with agents and made the decision and that Lawson has more or less left himself with no other choice. Now, I heard similar rumors about Lawson at this time last season, but last night Lawson was spotted at Outback in Durham meeting with an agent. I was told that they were discussing the draft and the number 21 was mentioned, presumably about the time the North Carolina point guard would be chosen. That sounds about right to me. And according to that source, Lawson's dad did not look happy. I'm sure North Carolina fans won't be to happy either as their situation at the point will be the topic of conversation from now until March.

UPDATE: Just to make some clarifications re: the original post and to help alleviate some jabs to my credibility.

According to my source, Lawson arrived at Outback around 9:45 p.m. and stayed until at least 10:15 p.m. He was seated at "table 1." Lawson at position 1, agent at position 2, father across table at position 3.

While seated, three kids sitting in the lounge with their father that got up upon seeing him and asked for his autograph.

So, he WAS NOT THERE DURING THE BANQUET. He was there after.

Last night Lawson was at the UNC banquet. How can he be there and at Outback at the same time?

Outback is open from 4:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

Yeah - he'd meet an agent, in public, at the Outback. I'm buying that one alright.

Where do you think these people meet? In the dorm room? In the coach's office? Two weeks ago Kentwan Balmer was on the patio with an agent at Cheesecake Factory. Saw that one with my own eyes.

I work at the Durham Outback and Ty Lawson was not in here last night. Last night was dead, i would have seen him.

I believe what you're saying, but have you been following these people around...or did you just happen upon them? Just curious? (kufan)

haha not possible, man. The team banquet was last night then I was at the same party as Lawson around 10. You might want to do a little fact checking

My sources are legit. My facts are checked. My story is as I say it is. All I'm doing is telling what I know.

you sure it wasn't his going away party?

Why would Ty have his agent check where he would be drafted, when Roy has check with 18 NBA teams?

Anonymous said...

this guy is clearly wrong. lawson and the rest of the team had a team banquet last night so unless he can be 2 places at once, it would be impossible for this to happen

"Why would Ty have his agent check where he would be drafted, when Roy has check with 18 NBA teams?"

I hope this is sarcasm. If you believe Roy tells these kids the truth about their draft position you're crazy.

Sincerely,
Paul Pierce, Drew Gooden, Marvin Williams, and Brandan Wright

Can you read? If so, please re-read the very last sentence of the post. Yeah, that one IN ALL CAPS!

Just out of curiosity can you tell me what Lawson was wearing when he was spotted at Outback. I know someone who actually spoke to him as he was leaving the Smith Center last night around 9:00.

Brandon Staton said...

No idea what he was wearing. Don't know what kind of cologne he had on. No idea how many karats his earrings are supposed to be or how many cell phones he had on his hip. Nope, don't know what he ate, what he drank or how many trips he made to the bathroom. All I know is that he was at Outback in Durham around 9:45, as I said. Sorry.

If Roy was lying to Marvin and Brandan, wouldn't that mean they would have stayed instead of going pro?

Might want to work on those critical thinking skills a bit.

Yeah and an agent will tell a 19-21 year old the truth to right? So he can make millions off the kid? Right!!!

If you're looking for a coach who lies to recruits about where they'll be drafted, Roy probably is a poor choice.

Now, K, that guy is a master at making someone a team captain so they'll stick around another year. Don't forget what K said to Will Avery's mom...he was F.king up K's program.

Oh, by the way, this whole blog post is garbage. Lawson was not at Outback last night, but nice try.

Speaking of critical thinking skills...Some people have enough of them to see through a someone deflating their draft stock in order to benefit himself. I bet you get taken advantage of often, you rube.

Anonymous said...

I have no idea what the guy talking about rubes is saying. Worst sentence structure ever.

But don't f up K's program

who's the annonymous poster that keeps defending the blog? is it you brandon?

Anonymous said...

What if your wrong? That's gotta suck for you huh? You put yourself out there my friend. I just don't get how the presser after the banquet Roy said that they had not made a choice, but some way, 30 minutes after, Wayne and Ty are gone?! MMMMMMM ROY > YOU!

Brandon Staton said...

Don't really have any reason to hide behind and "anonymous" tag like all of you. After all, I am the one who made the post, right?

And what if I'm wrong? Haha, what if I am? Aren't I already in the eyes of the clever commenters? People like you are the reason people in PR have jobs, my friend.

Idiot!!!!

I just wonder how you would have all of this information when no one else does. Seems like going to dinner with an agent after the banquet and all of the way in durham makes no sense.

i don't understand why everyone is trying to prove your blog wrong like you are trying to say the sky is not blue. you are just reporting what you heard. and i know that you are correct because it was MY roommate who told you.

chill out, people. do you really think Roy would say "everyone is staying, but Ty is meeting with an agent after the banquet." come on. of course he's going to say 'no decisions have been made'. besides, nothing is set in stone until the contract is signed. Ty just met the guy to talk options. and why Outback...where else are they gonna go around here?

every student at UNC knows that Ty hates class. he hasn't been to class in months. so why the big shock that he's been seen meeting with an agent?

and why is everyone focusing on this entry alone? i mean check out Byrd's picture a few entry's down haha. THAT is front page news to me hahahhaa

"all of the way in durham makes no sense."

Outback is about a 10 minute drive down 15-501 from the Dean Dome...

Really....?

" Among the forwards on the Bucks' radar screen are Hakim Warrick of Syracuse and Sean May of North Carolina whom, I'm told, is being encouraged to turn pro by his dad, Scott, the former Indiana star. I'm also told May is being cajoled by coach Roy Williams to stay with the Tar Heels."

Sounds like Ol' Roy is a perfect choice. William and K...

"Now, K, that guy is a master at making someone a team captain so they'll stick around another year. Don't forget what K said to Will Avery's mom...he was F.king up K's program."

Been reading "The Krazy Karolina Fakbuk" I see. Unfortunately (for you),it didn't happen that way....

"Krzyzewski offered to assist all three players in any way he could. Avery didn't take much advantage of that offer, dropping out of school and returning to his home in Augusta, GA after deciding to enter the draft. Duke associate athletics director Chris Kennedy offered Avery full support in finishing the spring semester academically or in officially withdrawing, as well as assistance in finding an agent, but Avery never pursued it."

""Certainly William's an outstanding player and a great kid. I want to support him forever. I'm also not going to lie to him. They didn't come to Duke for me to lie to them. I don't think it's the right thing to do right now for William, not for me."

""The money from the NBA definitely helped my family but obviously my career would have been very different if I stayed at Duke." William Avery, on his decision to leave Duke after his sophomore year"

"No, not at all. That's false information. It didn't happen like that at all......

William Avery debunking Curry Kirkpatrick 8/26/2001"

The DBR link is dead but by all means feel free to claim that I made up the quotes attributed to K and Avery.

ummmm...#1...

it does NOT take 10 minutes to get to outback on 15-501...with the lights and traffic at 9 pm on a weeknight, you have to bet 30 minutes to get out there.

I would say that Lawson is the most ready, physically, to make the NBA and Ellington probably has the most upside, but Ellington is probably going to go early 2nd round, which is not what a player of his "caliber" would want to do. if he wants the $, it's MUCH better to blow up next year and average 15-18 pts and turn into another Paul Pierce and go top 10 next year.

Tyler wont get much better, but I can see him staying just to spite all the other people who say he should go. He wants to go down as a legend in the way that Duncan and Laettner did.

Brandon Staton said...

This is completely irrelevant, but I had to do it. If you think it takes 30 minutes to get to Outback at 9 p.m. on a week night, you MUST be from Carrboro (meaning you're headed there on a 10-speed). Outback is 4.5 miles from the Smith Center. You could go 4.5 miles in 30 minutes on I-40 at 4:30 p.m. on a Friday. According to Google maps it's a nine minute drive, haha.

Brandon, do you still smell like Mel's puke? i do.

Anonymous said...

my god. everyone get a life. enjoy your title and enjoy watching your players leave

Anonymous said...

Um, wouldn't there be a lot of sources to confirm that he was not at the banquet if in fact, he was not at the banquet?

Anonymous said...

I hope they both go and wish them the best of luck! The Empire is starting to fall!

Anonymous said...

If you think the empire is falling you know nothing about recruiting. Frasor will be back to take Lawson's place along with L Drew. D Green will have to step up into Ellingtons place and Zeller and E Davis will step into Tyler's spot along with Stephenson and D Thompson.

Anonymous said...

I don't know guys the so called empire won't be what it was without these guys especially Ellington. Frasor taking over for Lawson??? Not even close! L Drew maybe can match what Lawson did but thats still a ?
Green taking over for Ellington You gotta be kidding??? Green is nowhere the shooter Ellington is. Green is a great player but doesn't have the shooting skills Ellington has. Now I will say that they have recruited for Tyler' spot. Zeller, Davis, Thompson, and Stephenson will cover that area. Yeah judging the recruiting the 4 and 5 are covered and got a pg ready. But who is gonna shoot the ball outside the paint? If people don't think the possibility of Ellingotn leaving is gonna be a blow then so be it.
I bet the guys down in Durham would gladly take a match up of Frasor/Drew and Green vs. a Lawson, and Ellington.
